Convert AVIF to PNG when compatibility and transparency matter

AVIF is excellent at making a finished web image small. PNG is useful for a different reason: design tools, office applications, support forms, older image viewers, and many production systems accept it without asking which codec is inside. This converter makes a real PNG from the decoded AVIF on your device. It is the practical route when the receiving program refuses AVIF or when transparent pixels must remain transparent.

The source is checked by its container bytes instead of by the filename. Once it has been decoded, the page shows dimensions, file size, transparency, and whether the container is an AVIF sequence before conversion begins. A sequence matters because this destination is one still PNG. If the source moves, only the first displayed image can enter this result, and the warning appears while the original is still in front of you.

Lossless output does not recover detail

PNG stores the picture it receives without a further lossy generation. That is useful for a file that will be edited, annotated, or saved again. It does not mean the image becomes sharper. Many AVIF files were encoded lossily before you received them, and any detail discarded at that stage is gone. The PNG preserves the decoded result exactly; it cannot reconstruct an earlier original.

This is also why the file often grows by a large multiple. AVIF was designed to compress photographs and complex graphics aggressively. PNG refuses that kind of approximation. Growth is the expected cost of compatibility, not evidence that extra quality appeared. If you need a conventional photographic file and do not need transparency, the AVIF to JPG converter is usually a more practical destination.

Resize without changing the shape

An optional maximum dimension can make an oversized source easier to use. It is a ceiling, not a target that forces every file to the same width: smaller pictures are never enlarged, and width and height remain linked to the source aspect ratio. A wide image stays wide and a portrait stays a portrait. There is no quality control because PNG is lossless and a quality slider would pretend to change something it cannot.

The finished bytes are opened again before the download is offered. The receipt reports the dimensions and size measured from that PNG rather than repeating the requested settings. Keep the AVIF as the compact master when possible, especially if it is animated or contains color information your downstream application may handle differently.
